The rapid development of artificial intelligence (AI) has brought significant changes to educational practices, creating new opportunities for teaching, learning, assessment, and teachers’ professional development. AI-powered technologies can support educators in preparing instructional materials, developing learning activities, generating ideas, and accessing educational resources more efficiently. However, the integration of AI into education also requires teachers to develop the knowledge, skills, and critical judgment necessary to use these technologies appropriately. UNESCO (2024), through its AI Competency Framework for Teachers, emphasizes that teachers need competencies extending beyond technical proficiency, including a human-centred mindset, an understanding of AI ethics, knowledge of AI foundations and applications, AI-supported pedagogy, and the ability to use AI for professional learning. These dimensions indicate that meaningful AI integration depends not merely on access to technological tools but also on teachers’ readiness, competence, and responsible decision-making.
